How To Choose a Song for Your First Dance

Sparks fly and fireworks go off as you and your fiancé hit the dance floor. It seems as if the entire world is still. Your guests eyes fill with happy tears. But what song is playing in the background?

Some couples know what “their song” is before they’re even engaged. Others may have a few ideas but have a hard time narrowing it down to one. While some of us are just stumped. We’ve been a part of so many amazing first dances and have learned a few tips for choosing the perfect song for one of the most special moments of your life.

If you’re the ultimate romantic, think of a special moment you and your partner shared. Whether it was your first kiss, first date, the moment you said those three little words, or got engaged. Do any songs come to mind? Was there any music playing? Your partner is your forever best friend, the one you will go on countless adventures with. Reminisce on your memories of traveling, or maybe a road trip. Did you entertain each other by belting out a great tune in the car? Or maybe you attended your dream concert together and couldn’t help but sing along.

If you still aren’t sure, don’t be afraid to be unconventional. Even if you choose a song that no one else knows, that’s okay. Of anything on your wedding day, this is a moment for just the two of you. You’ll be happier if you choose the song you really want rather than one you think your guests will like.

Look for lyrics that speak to your relationship together. This is the moment to showcase your love! Choosing your first dance song can take some consideration, but finding a song that channels the two if you perfectly is also really fun! The more thought that goes into it, the more meaningful it will be – you’ll cherish the memory forever! And there are so many amazing songs to choose from! A classic like At Last by Etta James, L-O-V-E by Nat King Cole, or Can’t Help Falling in Love by Elvis will bring all of your guests to tears. You can’t go wrong with modern ballads like All Of My by John Legend or Perfect by Ed Sheeran. We also love a more upbeat first dance to songs like Electric Love by Borns, Happy by Pharell, and You Make My Dreams by Hall & Oates. Whatever route you take, choose a song that means something to the both of you and make sure to enjoy the process!

Lastly, if you’re still undecided, you can always discuss your options with us! We’re willing to learn something new for your big day if we don’t know it already. We love bringing the moment to life and will make sure your first dance song is exactly what you dream it will be.
